Cupping Therapy

Cupping Therapy in Jacksonville

Cupping, or myofascial decompression, works by creating a vaccuum-like suction on the skin, creating tension between the layers underneath. Upon removal of the cups, oxygen flows into the tissue to create a localized inflammatory response & speed healing. Your practitioner will place multiple cups in areas that are sore or injured.

Cupping works by:

  • Improving blood circulation
  • Reducing pain
  • Reducing inflammation
  • Releasing tense fascia
  • Relieving trigger points
  • Promoting relaxation

Cupping first became mainstream in America when Michael Phelps arrived at the olympics with the cup marks on his back prior to competing. In reality, cupping is an art that is thousands of years old and based in many eastern and indigenous cultures. Did you know certain tribes used hollwed-out animal bones, shells, and glass as cups?

What are those marks?

Cup marks are NOT bruises! They are created from the suction, and do not go through the same healing cycle of bruises. Cup marks are not sensitive or painful to touch, unlike bruises. A typical rule of thumb: the darker the mark, the more stagnant the blood flow in an area. Generally, you will not feel pain from the marks, and they disappear after approximately 5-7 days. Dark marks are not a bad thing here!
